Notwithstanding Italy’s unhappiness over the”unacceptable nature of the judicial developments”involving two of its marines, India on Tuesday made it clear thatit will not “interfere” in the trial of two Italiansfacing murder charges in Kerala. “The judicial process is on and the Government of India isnever known to interfere in that process,” External AffairsMinister S.M. Krishna said when asked about framing of murdercharges and denial of bail to two Italian marines — LatoreMassimiliano and Salvatore Girone — which has escalated thediplomatic row between Rome and New Delhi. The marines were arrested on February 19, four days after theyallegedly opened fire while travelling by ship Enrica Lexie andkilled two fishermen off the coast of Kerala, apparently suspectingthem to be pirates.
